Wedding Invitation Wording for Kenyan Weddings (50+ Templates)

Wedding Invitation Wording for Kenyan Weddings (50+ Templates)

Getting the words right on your wedding invitation sets the tone for your entire celebration. Whether you are hosting a formal church wedding in Nairobi, a garden ceremony in Naivasha, or a traditional Kikuyu ngurario, the wording tells your guests exactly what to expect — and how much this moment means to you.

Finding the right invitation wording can feel surprisingly difficult. You want it to sound warm but not too casual, formal but not stiff, and culturally appropriate for your specific type of wedding. On top of that, many Kenyan couples need bilingual options to reach both English-speaking and Swahili-speaking relatives.

This guide gives you over fifty ready-to-use invitation wording templates for every type of Kenyan wedding. Copy them directly, mix and match elements, or use them as starting points and make them your own.

How Kenyan Wedding Invitations Are Structured

Before diving into templates, it helps to understand the standard structure. Most Kenyan wedding invitations follow this order:

  1. Host line — who is inviting (parents, the couple, or both)
  2. Request line — the formal invitation phrase (“request the honour of your presence,” “invite you to celebrate,” etc.)
  3. Couple’s names — bride and groom, in whichever order you prefer
  4. Event type — wedding ceremony, reception, traditional ceremony, etc.
  5. Date and time — written formally or casually depending on tone
  6. Venue and address — full venue name plus location details
  7. RSVP information — how to respond and by when
  8. Additional details — dress code, directions, parking, etc.

The host line is where most of the variation happens. Traditionally in Kenya, the parents of both the bride and groom host the wedding, and the invitation reads “Mr. & Mrs. [Surname] request the honour of your presence…” In modern weddings, the couple may host themselves, or the invitation may come from both sets of parents together.

Tips for Writing Your Own Invitation Wording

If none of these templates are exactly what you need, here are guidelines for writing your own.

Match the Tone to the Event

A church wedding at Holy Family Basilica calls for different language than a barefoot ceremony in Diani. Read your wording out loud. Does it sound like something you would actually say? If a formal template feels too stiff for your personality, go casual. If a casual template feels too relaxed for your church ceremony, go formal. There is no wrong answer as long as it feels authentic to who you are as a couple.

Include Every Essential Detail

No matter how creative or minimalist your wording is, every invitation must include: the couple’s names, the date, the time, the venue with enough detail for guests to find it, and how to RSVP. Missing any of these creates confusion and generates dozens of phone calls and WhatsApp messages you do not want to deal with during wedding planning.

Be Clear About What Is and Is Not Included

Kenyan wedding guests are generous by nature, and they also tend to bring people along. If your wedding is limited in capacity, say so kindly but clearly. “This invitation is for the named guest(s) only” is direct without being rude. If children are not invited, state it explicitly rather than hoping people will guess.

Proofread Everything

Names, dates, times, and venue addresses must be perfect. Have at least three people review your invitation before it goes out. A wrong date or misspelled name is the kind of mistake that follows you for years. Double-check that the time format is consistent — do not mix “2:00 PM” and “two o’clock in the afternoon” on the same invitation unless it is intentional.

Consider Your Distribution Method

If you are sending digital invitations through WhatsApp or a wedding website, your wording can be slightly longer and include clickable links. If you are printing physical cards, keep it concise — every extra line costs more in printing and makes the card harder to read.

How Harusi Hub Makes Invitation Wording Easy

With Harusi Hub, you do not have to worry about fitting everything onto one card. Your free wedding website includes a personalised invitation link system where you can create multiple invite links with different wording for different guest groups.

For example, you can create a formal invite link from your parents for their guest list, a warm invite link from the couple for close friends, and a casual invite link for the bridal party. Each link opens a beautiful splash page with your chosen wording, wedding details, and an RSVP button.

This means you can use the formal templates above for your parents’ guest list and the casual templates for your friends — all from the same wedding website, without printing a single card.
